Uses of PEDW/APC

The IM&T strategy for NHS Wales - Better Information - Better Health states that "from April 1999 the Patient Episode Database for Wales (PEDW) will be used as the main source of comparative inpatient and day case data." One of the key developments in the NHS plan is the development of a performance management framework. PEDW/APC is one of the databases used to derive performance indicators. These performance indicators are high level indicators that serve to highlight areas of further investigation, which may involve using indicators from this or other sets, finer analysis at Local Health Board level, or comparison over time with other parts of the United Kingdom.
